On a morning walk in South India, I observed an early morning driving lesson in a well-marked driving instruction car on completely empty roads, wherein the learner driver behind the wheel honked the horn every ten metres or so. As in, the learner driver was being taught that persistent, regular horn honking is part of driving correctly.

I imagine your Vector van driver had a different aim but I wanted to share this datum just in case it influenced your conclusions.

This is excellent – it has reframed things for me somehow and now I feel much calmer when I think about the horn honking.
